This chapter provides information about the configuration of units in the unit table.
Properties
Each unit (row) has the following properties (columns):
Category
The category can be used to group the units. Physical entities are used as categories, such as temperature, velocity, force. Click in the table cell to select the appropriate category. The list of categories is predefined.
Name
This is the name of the unit. This field can be left empty as long as no other unit has the same abbreviation. See also Abbreviations.
Description
Here, you can enter additional information or a description regarding the unit. This information is only visible in this table.
Active
This property determines whether the unit is taken into account or not. If you uncheck the checkbox the unit will be ignored.
Per unit system a unit has the following properties:
Abbreviations
This is the unit symbol which stands next to the signal value if the unit table is enabled. This field cannot be empty. See also Abbreviations.
Scaling factor (not available for primary unit system)
This is the factor that a signal value in the primary unit system should be multiplied with to get the correct value in the destination unit system.
Scaling offset (not available for primary unit system)
This is an additional offset which should be added to or substracted from the calculated value in the destination unit system.
See for example the temperatures in the standard unit table.
The scaling always refers to the primary unit system (metric in the standard table). Therefore, the columns Scaling factor and Scaling offset are not available for the primary unit system.
Testing the unit conversion
Click on the corresponding icon in the tool bar to show or hide additional test columns. You can enter a value in the test column of one unit system and ibaPDA will calculate immediately the values for all other unit systems (works in both directions).
Grouping units
Click on the corresponding icon in the tool bar to group the units by categories. The groups are built by category names in ascending alphabetical order.
Adding and deleting units
In order to add units to or delete units from the table use the symbol buttons on the right side of the table or the context menu inside the table. The delete command refers to the selected unit(s) in the table. Multiselection is possible by using <Ctrl> or <Shift> keys.
Showing and hiding columns
Open the context menu by a right mouse click on the header of the table. Select here which columns are to be displayed. Reset restores the default column selection and column arrangement. You can change the column arrangement in the table by drag & drop.
Furthermore, there is a filter row in the table header, which can be used for filtering the table by content.
You’ll find more information about filter functions in Advanced filter in tables.
